Fused quartz sand has an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion and, therefore, a very high thermal shock resistance. Fused silica quartz crucible can be heated to 1500 degrees Celsius or higher and immersed in cold water without causing physical damage. The annealing point is 1140 degrees Celsius, the strain point is 1070 degrees Celsius, and the melting point is 1700 to 1800 degrees Celsius.
