What Are The Applications of JGS2 Quartz Glass in Chemical Experiments

Among the numerous equipment in the chemistry laboratory, glassware occupies half of the country. However, not all "glass" is the same. When faced with high temperature, strong corrosiveness, or high purity requirements in experiments, ordinary glass is often powerless. At this point, JGS2 quartz glass stood out and became an indispensable key material in high-end chemical experiments.

What is JGS2 quartz glass?

JGS2 quartz glass is a special type of glass made from high-purity silicon dioxide (SiO ₂) melted at high temperatures. Due to its excellent optical properties, it is often referred to as "ultraviolet optical quartz glass".

Its core characteristics stem from its chemical composition and microstructure:

High purity: The silicon dioxide content is over 99.99%, and the impurity content is extremely low.

High temperature resistance: The softening point is close to 1700 ℃, much higher than ordinary glass.

Good thermal stability: With an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion, it can withstand drastic temperature changes without bursting.

Chemical inertness: Except for hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid, it hardly reacts with other acidic substances.

Excellent optical performance: It has good transmittance to ultraviolet light, visible light, and near-infrared light.

The specific application of JGS2 quartz glass in chemical experiments

With the outstanding performance mentioned above, JGS2 quartz glass plays an important role in multiple key areas of chemical laboratories.

1. High temperature reaction vessel

Application scenario: Used for high-temperature synthesis, sintering, annealing, ashing and other experiments in reaction tubes, crucibles, boats, etc. in tube furnaces and muffle furnaces.

Problem solved:

High temperature resistance: Ordinary glass (such as borosilicate glass) will soften and deform above 600 ℃, while JGS2 quartz container can work for a long time below 1200 ℃ and can withstand higher temperatures in the short term.

Pollution free: Its high purity ensures that impurities such as alkali metal ions will not precipitate at high temperatures, avoiding contamination of reactants or products and ensuring the accuracy of experimental results. This is crucial for fields such as semiconductor material preparation and nanomaterial synthesis that require extremely high purity.

2. Treatment of highly corrosive media

Application scenarios: reaction vessels used for storing and heating strong acids such as concentrated sulfuric acid, nitric acid, aqua regia, etc., such as beakers, flasks, burettes, volumetric flasks, etc.

Problem solved:

Corrosion resistance: Ordinary glass can be corroded by strong alkali and quickly dissolved by hydrofluoric acid. JGS2 quartz glass has extremely strong resistance to almost all acids (except hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid), greatly extending the service life of the vessel.

Maintaining the purity of the medium: Avoiding impurities such as silicates introduced by corrosion of the vessel, it is particularly suitable for trace analysis and preparation of ultra pure chemical reagents.

3. UV optics and analytical instrument components

Application scenarios: As a colorimetric dish and sample cell for UV spectrometers, as well as lenses, prisms, and window plates for optical instruments such as fluorescence spectrometers and atomic absorption spectrometers.

Problem solved:

High UV transmittance: This is the core advantage of JGS2 quartz. Ordinary glass strongly absorbs ultraviolet light, making it impossible to perform analysis and detection in the ultraviolet band. JGS2 quartz glass still has high transmittance in the deep ultraviolet range of 200-250nm, ensuring the accuracy and sensitivity of ultraviolet spectroscopy measurement.

Good optical uniformity: able to provide accurate and distortion free optical paths, ensuring the reliability of analytical data.

4. Precision experiments and special environments

Application scenarios: photochemical reaction experiments, vessels in semiconductor cleaning processes, optical bases in laser technology, etc.

Problem solved:

Low fluorescence background: The fluorescence interference generated by JGS2 quartz glass itself is extremely weak, which can effectively reduce background noise and improve signal-to-noise ratio in fluorescence detection experiments.

Good insulation: It has good electrical insulation performance and is suitable for experimental containers in high voltage or discharge environments.

Vacuum sealing: It can be used as an observation window in high vacuum systems, and its low air release rate can maintain the vacuum degree of the system.

Precautions for using JGS2 quartz glass

Despite its excellent performance, JGS2 quartz glassware is also quite delicate. When using it, please pay attention to:

1. Avoid fluoride and phosphorus: It is strictly prohibited to come into contact with hydrofluoric acid, fluoride, and hot concentrated phosphoric acid, as they can severely corrode quartz glass.

2. Avoid alkalis and be cautious of alkalis: Contact with alkaline substances such as alkali metal oxides and carbonates at high temperatures can cause reactions, resulting in surface opacity. Avoid contact with strong alkalis at high temperatures.

3. Preventing thermal shock: Although it has good thermal stability, it is still necessary to avoid local overheating or rapid cooling from extremely high temperatures. When taking it out, quartz specific crucible pliers should be used.

4. Handle with care: It has high hardness but poor toughness, and is a brittle material that can easily be damaged by collision and scratching.

UV Optical Instrument JGS2 Quartz Glass

JGS2 quartz glass is not an ordinary experimental consumable, but a high-performance material designed to cope with extreme experimental conditions such as high temperature, strong corrosion, high purity requirements, and ultraviolet optical detection. It solves the core pain points of pollution, intolerance, and opacity caused by ordinary glassware in high-end chemistry, materials science, analysis and testing fields.

When choosing experimental equipment, investing in JGS2 quartz glassware will be an important guarantee for ensuring successful experiments and accurate data if the experiment involves the aforementioned stringent conditions.
