Fused silica glass plate is widely used in the optical field because of its unique optical properties.

1. Transparency
The fused silica glass plate has excellent light transmittance in a wide spectral range, and can cover the wavelength range from ultraviolet (UV) to infrared (IR). For example, fused silica glasses of JGS1, JGS2 and JGS3 have higher average transmittance in different wavelength ranges:
-JGS1: In the wavelength range of 0.17-2.10 microns, the average transmittance exceeds 90%.
-JGS2: In the wavelength range of 0.26-2.10 microns, the average transmittance exceeds 85%.
-JGS3: In the wavelength range of 0.185-3.50 microns, the average transmittance exceeds 85%.
This wide range of high transparency makes it an ideal material for optical components such as lenses, window lenses, and lenses.

2. Refractive properties
Fused silica glass has a certain birefringence, that is, when light passes through, it will be divided into two polarized beams. The birefringence constants of different types of fused silica glass are different:
-JGS1: The birefringence constant is 2-4 nm/cm.
-JGS2: The birefringence constant is 4-6 nm/cm.
-JGS3: The birefringence constant is 4-10 nm/cm.
This characteristic makes fused silica glass have important applications in polarized optical elements, such as polarizers and prisms.

3. Fluorescence characteristics
The fluorescence characteristics of fused silica glass depend on its manufacturing process and impurity content:
-JGS1: Almost no fluorescence, suitable for optical systems with strict requirements for fluorescence interference.
-JGS2: It has strong visible blue light fluorescence (V-B) and is suitable for applications in the visible light range.
-JGS3: The fluorescence characteristics are similar to JGS2, but the impurity content is lower.

4. Optical absorption characteristics
The optical absorption characteristics of fused silica glass are closely related to its purity and impurity content:
-High purity fused silica glass: such as JGS3, with extremely low impurity content (5 ppm), and extremely low absorption in ultraviolet and infrared bands.
-Ordinary fused silica glass: such as JGS2, with high impurity content (20-40 ppm), the absorption in some wavebands will be slightly higher.
In addition, by doping metal ions (such as Cr3+and Co2+), fused silica glass can be endowed with specific optical absorption characteristics:
-Cr3+doped fused silica glass: it has obvious absorption of blue light with a wavelength of 471 nm and red light with a wavelength of 660 nm, showing green.
-Co2+doped fused silica glass: it has obvious absorption of yellow light with a wavelength of 597nm and red light with a wavelength of 662nm, showing blue.

5. Thermal stability
The fused silica glass has a low thermal expansion coefficient (for example, the thermal expansion coefficient of JGS1 is 5.5 × 10 ^ -7 cm/cm · ° C), and can still maintain good optical properties under high temperature environment. This characteristic makes it suitable for high-energy laser systems and high-temperature lighting equipment.

6. Chemical stability
Fused silica glass has excellent chemical stability, and has good resistance to most chemical reagents and environmental conditions. This enables it to maintain stable optical performance even in harsh environments.

7. Mechanical stability
The mechanical properties of fused silica glass (such as high Young's modulus and compressive strength) enable it to withstand certain mechanical stress in the optical system. For example, JGS1 has a Young's modulus of 73 GPa and a compressive strength of 1.14 GPa.

Fused silica glass plate has a broad application prospect in the optical field because of its excellent light transmittance, birefringence, low fluorescence, adjustable optical absorption, thermal stability and chemical stability. Fused silica glass can provide reliable optical performance whether it is used for high-precision optical elements, laser systems, or optical equipment in high temperature and harsh environment.
