In the heater, the difference between quartz glass and ordinary glass is mainly reflected in the following aspects:
I.The composition and purity
Quartz glass: its main component is silicon dioxide, and the content is as high as 99% or more. The high purity of silicon dioxide makes quartz glass has unique physical and chemical properties.
Ordinary glass: its main components include sodium silicate, silicon dioxide and calcium silicate, of which the content of silicon dioxide is generally between 70% and 75%, and the rest is sodium oxide, calcium oxide and other alkali metals or alkaline earth metals, in order to achieve the purpose of lowering the melting temperature, improve the material properties.
II.Physical Properties
Hardness: The Mohs hardness of quartz glass can reach 7 degrees, while the Mohs hardness of ordinary glass is between 5.5 and 6.0 degrees. This means that quartz glass performs better in terms of resistance to abrasion and scratching.
Coefficient of Thermal Expansion: The coefficient of thermal expansion of quartz glass is small, 5.5×10^-7/°C, while the coefficient of thermal expansion of ordinary glass is 12 to 20 times that of quartz glass. Therefore, quartz glass is not easy to burst when it is cooled rapidly after being subjected to high temperature.
III.Chemical Properties
Corrosion resistance: quartz glass is an acidic material, in addition to hydrofluoric acid and hot phosphoric acid, any other acid are inert, is a better acid-resistant materials. And ordinary glass due to the low silica content, its acid resistance is relatively poor.
IV. optical properties
Transmittance: quartz glass has excellent light transmittance in the range of 185~3500mμ band, which can pass through the far-ultraviolet spectrum, visible light and infrared spectrum. This makes the quartz glass in the infrared heater can be more effective in the heater for radiation. Ordinary glass is unable to transmit these spectral ranges.
V. Application Scenarios
Quartz glass heater: Due to the above excellent physical, chemical and optical properties, quartz glass heater is widely used in industrial production such as coating drying of lithium battery production, heating and molding of automotive interior and exterior parts, and heating and molding of refrigerator plastic parts.
Ordinary glass heater: Although ordinary glass is also used in the heater, but due to its relatively poor performance, it is usually only suitable for some occasions that do not require high heating efficiency and life.
There are significant differences between quartz glass and ordinary glass in the application of heaters. With its high purity, excellent physical and chemical properties, and good optical properties, quartz glass occupies an important position in the high-end heater market.
