In the preparation process of fiber preform, the preparation techniques of quartz lining sleeve mainly include the following:

Gas refining electric melting two-step process: This is a traditional preparation method, but it is gradually being phased out due to its high energy consumption, high cost, and high hydroxyl content in the prepared quartz lining tube.

External vapor deposition (OVD) process: This is a chemical vapor deposition process performed externally, widely used in the direct production of outer cladding for optical fiber preforms. The OVD process uses hydrogen oxygen flame or silane as a heat source, and through a spray lamp, the reaction gases such as SiCl4 are subjected to gas-phase hydrolysis and deposition to obtain SiO2 porous bodies, which are then dehydrated and sintered into glass bodies.

High frequency plasma solid-phase external deposition (PSOD) process: This process uses plasma as the heat source and high-purity quartz sand as the raw material to prepare quartz lined sleeves for optical fiber preforms through plasma melting, mechanical cold processing, and other steps. The characteristic of this process is that the energy concentration temperature is high, and quartz sand can be directly vitrified. The production process does not introduce hydroxyl groups and does not produce toxic or harmful gases.

As the highest value-added link in the fiber optic cable industry chain, fiber preform involves various preparation processes, including natural quartz process and CVD synthetic quartz process.
