Fiber preform quartz rod, also known as fiber preform rod, is the core raw material for manufacturing quartz series optical fibers. It is mainly used for drawing optical fibers (filaments), and after heating treatment, it undergoes fiber drawing operations, becoming the main core component of optical fibers. The preparation of fiber preform mainly adopts vapor deposition method, including various processes such as vertical deposition, external deposition, internal deposition, etc. These process technologies mainly include External Vapor Deposition (OVD), Vapor Axial Deposition (VAD), Modified Vapor Deposition (MCVD), and Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD).
The working principle of fiber preform is based on the principle of total reflection. When light enters a low refractive index medium from a high refractive index medium, if the incident angle is greater than the critical angle, the light will undergo total reflection at the interface. The interior of the fiber preform is made of high refractive index glass and the exterior is a low refractive index cladding. Therefore, when light propagates from the interior to the exterior, total reflection of light can be achieved, thus realizing long-distance transmission of light.
