Q1: What diameter quartz rods can you cut?  

A: We cover a diameter range of 2mm to 500mm. For thin rods (≤ 10mm), multiple can be cut side by side with high efficiency; For thick rods (≥ 100mm), use a large diamond wire saw or inner circle cutting machine to ensure that the end face is flat and free of broken edges.

Q2: How precise can the cutting length be? Can we cut at angles other than 90 °?  

A: The length tolerance is generally ± 0.1mm, and precision requirements can achieve ± 0.05mm. It can cut any angled end face such as 30 °, 45 °, 60 °, etc., for optical path reflection or positioning fit.

Q3: Is it necessary to perform end face treatment after cutting?  

A: We can provide three types of end face states: ① cutting the rough surface (direct use, lowest cost); ② Fine grinding surface (removing cutting lines, Ra about 0.8 μ m); ③ Optical polishing surface (Ra ≤ 0.2 μ m, used for transparent or contact detection). You can choose according to the application scenario.

Q4: Can drilling or slotting be completed while cutting?  

A: Okay. We provide one-stop processing of "cutting+punching+slotting". For example, after cutting the quartz rod to a specified length, drill a blind hole in the center of the end face, or open a positioning groove on the side, saving you the trouble of multiple outsourcing.

Application problems solved (typical scenarios)

1. Replacement of spare parts for semiconductor equipment: Some quartz rods are expensive and have fixed lengths. We cut them to precise lengths according to the original equipment drawings and replace them directly, reducing costs by more than 50%.  

2. Optical experiment gasket/spacer ring: Small discs with thicknesses of 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm are required. Cut the quartz rod into thin slices, polish the end face, and use it for precision optical path spacing.

Customer Application Case (Anonymous)

Case 1: A semiconductor equipment maintenance company

-Requirement: A batch of quartz support rods with original specifications of Φ 12 × 75mm need to be replaced in a certain etching equipment, and the end face requires fine grinding. The customer has a ready-made Φ 12mm long rod, but they do not have the ability to cut and process the end face themselves.  

-Solution: We will cut the long rod into 50 short rods with a diameter of 75 ± 0.05mm, finely grind both ends to Ra 0.8 μ m, and make R0.5 chamfers.  

-Effect: After customer installation, the matching is successful in one go, and the cost per unit is only one-third of the original factory parts. Subsequently, we were commissioned to cut another 200 pieces of two different specifications.

Case 2: European University Physics Laboratory

-Requirement: For quantum optics experiments, a spacer column with a diameter of 10mm quartz disc is required, with thicknesses of 2.00mm, 3.00mm, and 5.00mm respectively. Both ends should be optically polished with parallelism better than 0.01mm.

-Challenge: Ordinary cutting and single-sided polishing are difficult to ensure parallelism at both ends.  

-Solution: We first cut thin sheets with a thickness margin of 2.2mm, 3.2mm, and 5.2mm, and then use a double-sided grinding and polishing machine to grind both ends to a parallelism of 0.008mm at once, with a final thickness tolerance of ± 0.02mm.

-Effect: The stability of the experimental device's optical path has been significantly improved. The laboratory has designated us as the processing party and has ordered quartz spacers of different thicknesses multiple times.

Case 3: American fiber optic jumper manufacturer

-Requirement: A quartz base for aligning fiber optic ceramic plugs, which requires cutting a Φ 3mm quartz rod into a length of 6.5mm, with a requirement for end face perpendicularity within 0.05mm. The annual demand is 20000 pieces.  

-Challenge: High consistency is required for large-scale cutting, and there should be no visible edge breakage.  

-Solution: We have developed a specialized multi station fixture that can simultaneously cut 100 bar materials at a time. We use a 0.2mm thick diamond wire saw, and the measured average perpendicularity of the cutting end face is 0.03mm, with a broken edge of less than 0.05mm.

-Effect: The customer's production yield has increased from 92% to 98.5%, and the order has been continuously cooperated for two years, with a cumulative delivery of over 50000 units.

Case 4: A certain photovoltaic equipment manufacturer

-Requirement: For the quartz spacer used in the tubular PECVD furnace, it is necessary to cut the Φ 25mm quartz rod into a length of 320mm, grind and chamfer both ends at 1 × 45 °, and ensure that there are no cracks on the cut surface (otherwise it will explode at high temperatures).  

-Solution: We use slow wire cutting (feed rate 0.5mm/min) and sufficient water cooling. After cutting, we use fluorescent penetrant inspection to ensure no micro cracks. The chamfer is formed in one go using a dedicated chamfering machine.  

-Effect: After installation, it underwent 100 cycles of high-temperature cycling testing (room temperature → 900 ℃ → room temperature) without any cracking.
